Wang Li Xue

Wang Lixue, styled Baiyi Daoyi, was from Henan Province. According to the "Brief History of Taoism in Wudang", Wang Li, a student, began to study Confucianism in 1893. As he grew up, he became fond of Laozi and Zhuangzi, excelled in medical theory, and was skilled in the interpretation of the I Ching. He had no intention of pursuing a career in politics and left his family to study Taoism in the Sanqing Hall of Chaoyang Cave on Wudang Mountain. He was a fellow apprentice of Liu Lishan and once jointly presided over the construction of Chaoyang Cave. In his spare time, he composed poems and lyrics, and wrote three volumes of "Wudang Scenery Record", of which one still exists. When the China Taoist Association was established in 1957, Wang Liuli was one of its founders.
