Yin Xi, according to the "Wudang Fudi Zongzhen Ji" by Liu Daoming of the Yuan Dynasty, was a minister during the reign of King Kang of Zhou (1067-1042 BC). His surname was Yin and his given name was Xi. He was also known as Mr. Wen Shi and was good at star divination. On the western weekend, Yin Xi observed the celestial phenomena at night and saw purple mist drifting westward. He predicted that a master of the Great Way would pass through the Hangu Pass. In order to meet this unknown figure of the Daoist School, he was appointed as the magistrate of Hangu Pass (Hangu Pass is now the area of Wuduozi Village by the Nongjian River in the northeast of Lingbao County, Henan Province). Not long after, indeed, an old man of the Great Way came riding a green ox to meet the pass. Yin Xi led his disciples out of the pass to welcome them and earnestly paid homage to them, imparting the Tao. Laozi wrote two chapters, the "Tao Jing" and the "De Jing", totaling five thousand words, at the Hangu Pass and presented them to Yin Xi. This is the Tao Te Ching, which has endured countless hardships and is profound and mysterious. Before parting, Laozi made an appointment with Yin Xi to "meet the Green Sheep of Shu later", and then drifted away. After Yin Xi obtained the Tao Te Ching, he resigned from his official position under the pretext of illness and secluded himself in the Han Pass to practice. Later, remembering what Laozi had said, he set off for the Shu region. When he entered the Wudang Mountain Area, he saw that the mountain was unique and secluded, and the atmosphere was pleasant. So he secluded himself in a stone chamber beneath the stone wall of the Three Heavenly Gates on Tianzhu Peak. Beside the stone chamber, there is a ravine called Qingyang Ravine. Wudang Mountain is located at the junction of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Chu. In ancient times, it was under the jurisdiction of Shu, Qin or Chu from time to time. It is possible that it was under the jurisdiction of Shu on weekends. Later, Laozi visited Wudang and visited Yin Xi again at Qingyang Gorge, which confirmed the two of them 'later meeting Qingyang of Shu'. Later on, Yin Xi followed Laozi, "Wandering in the quicksand together, there is no end in sight."
