Wang Daoyi, styled Chaodao, was from Longhu Mountain, Xinzhou, Jiangxi Province. He was a man who achieved enlightenment on Wudang Mountain during the Yuan Dynasty. According to the "Brief History of Taoism in Wudang", Wang was the son of Wang Wenfu of Longhu Mountain. He was born with extraordinary characteristics and grew up to be exceptionally perceptibly enlightened. Later, in the autumn of the reign of Emperor Bingzi (1336 AD), Zhang Shouqing, a high-ranking Taoist priest from Wudang Mountain, traveled to Longhu Mountain and stayed at Wang Wenfu's home. When he saw Wang Daoyi, he was very surprised and said to his father, Wang Wenfu, "Your son is no ordinary person. If he is fortunate enough to become my teacher, he will become a master of the Taoist sect in the future." Wang Wenfu then asked Zhang Shouqing to lead Wang Daoyi to Wudang Mountain. Zhang Shouqing then imparted all the secrets of the Golden Pill and the Upper Qing Lightning Technique. Later, he went to Wuyi Mountain and became a disciple of Jin Pengtou (styled Ye 'an), thus completing his career. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, in the area of Shanguan in Guangze County, Fujian Province, due to military disasters, diseases and epidemics were quite severe. Local people Dai and Huang, upon hearing that Wang Daoyi was virtuous and capable, invited him to treat him, but both were verified. He is well-known in Fujian and Jiangxi provinces and is known as "Wuyi Mountain Moon Hermit Wang Zhenren".
