Tao You 'an was a reclusive Taoist in Wudang during the Tang Dynasty. Little is known about his life. The "Brief History of Taoism in Wudang" quotes Wang Xiangzhi of the Southern Song Dynasty from "Yudi Jisheng" and from "Yan Gong Liyao", which record that Tao You 'an's place of seclusion was at Baihua Spring Rock on Wudang Mountain. This is Xianlu Rock to the north of Tianzhu Peak, one of the thirty-six rocks of Wudang Mountain. The mountain Chronicles describe its general outline. Liu Daoming of the Yuan Dynasty wrote in "The True Collection of the Blessed Lands of Wudang" that the Baihua Spring Rock "was where Tao You 'an achieved enlightenment in ancient times." Judging from the name "Xianlu Rock", it can be seen that in ancient times, Tao You 'an was not the only one who practiced here.
