A research report published by Finnish researchers indicates that eating apples regularly can reduce the risk of lung cancer. They pointed out that the flavonoids contained in apples, which are important antioxidant substances produced by plants through metabolism, are the main reason for reducing the incidence of lung cancer. The National Institute of Public Health Helsinki has been conducting this long-term research since 1965. In a 30-year study, the dietary patterns of approximately 1,000 Finns were investigated. It was found that the main reason for preventing cancer is not the abundant vitamin C and beta-carotene in fruits and vegetables, but the flavonoids contained in apples, vegetables and other fruits. 95% of the respondents obtained a flavonoid compound called quercetin from apples. Those who consume apples, Onions, fruit juices, vegetables and fruit sauces, which contain the most flavonoids, as required, have a 20% lower incidence of lung cancer. People who often consume foods containing flavonoids, especially apples, have a 46% lower incidence of lung cancer. For this reason, Mr. Greg Bainter, the manager of the sales and consumer services department of Tree Top, the world's largest apple juice producer, pointed out, "This is an exciting piece of intelligence for the world and we look forward to further in-depth research to understand the effects of apples." In addition, the latest research from Cornell University in the United States has also found that apples contain a large amount of antioxidant substances.
