The Taoist architecture in Wudang is classified by grade into palaces, temples, nunneries, halls, etc. Among them, nunneries are of a lower grade and mainly serve as places for Taoists to cultivate their character and refine their nature. "Chong Xu" means to be indifferent and calm. Among the 36 nunneries in the historical Wudang Taoist architectural complex, Chongxu Nunnery is one of the relatively well-preserved ones at present. Chongxu Nunnery is located in a basin surrounded by mountains. It is said that it was first built during the Tang and Song dynasties and is one of the earlier units of Taoist architecture in Wudang history. After its reconstruction in the 11th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, it was rebuilt many times and took on its current scale. In front of Chongxu Nunnery stands an ancient tree, which is said to have been planted by Lu Dongbin and is called the Golden Flower Tree. It is one of the famous scenic spots on Wudang Mountain.
