Huayang Rock Stele II

#Wulong ·2022-08-20 23:32:13

In Huayang Rock of Wudang Mountain, there is a self-portrait stone carving of a famous Taoist priest from the Yuan Dynasty, which is also the only self-portrait of a Taoist priest discovered so far. The stele is 1.5 meters high and 0.9 meters wide. It features a self-painted image of Haoran Zi, with a detailed and lifelike form. In the upper right corner, there is a poem written by Haoranzi himself, which reads: "If the body is depicted with ink, the nature of the sky is clear and bright, and the pen cannot touch it. The load of the heaven is silent and stinky. Where is this brilliant light?" This stele was erected in the fifth year of the Zhi Zheng era of the Yuan Dynasty, that is, in 1345 AD. The graphics and text on it have significant historical and cultural research value. Haoranzi was Li Mingliang, a renowned Taoist priest of the Yuan Dynasty on Wudang Mountain, and Haoranzi was his Taoist name. His residence was named "Yuzhai". Huayang Rock is a place where "Wang Yangming is high and clear", and it is suitable to cultivate a noble and upright spirit. And "Yuzhai" means that he is like the rock valley of Wudang Mountain, constantly studying the way of tranquility and deep silence. The four lines of his self-composed poem contain profound truths about Taoist cultivation and health preservation, expressing Li Mingliang's innermost feelings.
