Huayang Rock has a long history. In the third year of the Xuande reign of the Ming Dynasty, the "Imperial Edict for the Construction of Mount Taihe" compiled by Ren Ziyuan, the official commissioner of Mount Taihe and the director of Taichang Temple, referred to this place as Yangxianyan. It is said that in the past, there was a hermit named "Hua Yang" who practiced Taoist rituals in a cave and lived to be over a hundred years old. The local Chronicles do not provide detailed records of the buildings here. They only mention that there was a group of buildings called "Haoran Zhai" in the Yuan Dynasty. The stone hall we see now was very likely built by the Ming Dynasty on the basis of the architecture of the Yuan Dynasty. In Wudang Mountain, small-scale buildings can be found at the sites of immortals and hermits, which is a common sight in the architectural system of Wudang Mountain. Huayang Rock is a case in point.
