Laozi said: "Stillness and tranquility 惔, that is the way to nourish the world; harmony and joy in the void, that is the way to maintain virtue. When the outside is not disturbed, the inside is in its proper place. When stillness and stillness are in harmony, virtue is in its proper position. To nourish the world and maintain virtue throughout the year, one can truly understand the way." If so, there is no stagnation in the blood vessels, no accumulation of qi in the five storehouses, no distortion of fortune and misfortune, no accumulation of dust and dirt without praise, no existence of the world, who can help? Even if one has talent but does not encounter the right time, one still cannot escape. How much more so if there is no way? Those who observe the tiniest details with their eyes cannot hear the sound of thunder, and those who tune their ears to the sounds of gold and jade cannot see the shape of Mount Tai with their eyes. Therefore, when one has small aspirations, one may forget much. Now, when all things come, they elevate my life and 攓 take my essence, like the source of a spring. Even if I desire it, I do not ask for it. Can I obtain it? If the water in the basin is clear for a long time, one can see the eyebrows and eyes. If it is turbid, one can only see the square and the circle with a slight scratch. The human spirit is hard to be clear and is prone to being turbid, just like the water in the basin.
