Abide by the law

Laozi said: The supreme sage follows the laws of heaven, followed by the virtuous, and then appointed officials. Appointing officials is the way of peril and destruction, the virtuous are the source of delusion and confusion, and following heaven is the way of governing heaven and earth. Emptiness and stillness reign supreme, emptiness is not accepted, stillness is not maintained. Only by understanding the way of emptiness and stillness can one achieve the beginning and the end. Therefore, the sage regards stillness as governance and movement as chaos. Thus, he said, "Do not scratch, do not rush, and all things will clear themselves; do not be alarmed, do not be frightened, and all things will take care of themselves." This is called the way of heaven.
