This statue of Zhenwu, placed in the highest hall of Wudang Mountain, was made by the imperial court of the Ming Dynasty. It is made of copper and gilded. Standing at 1.86 meters tall, it is rich and imposing, solemn and dignified, and exquisitely beautiful. It represents the highest level of copper casting art in the Ming Dynasty and is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture and casting techniques. This statue, whether in terms of its attire, expression or styling, perfectly embodies the image of Zhenwu in Taoist legends. Zhenwu was called Xuanwu in ancient times. It originated from ancient astrology and was one of the seven constellations in the north. During the Western Han Dynasty, it evolved into the image of a turtle and a snake entwined, and during the Eastern Han Dynasty, it evolved into a personified deity. The Han Dynasty's Wei Shu stated: "The Black Emperor of the North, with the form of Xuanwu." Later, it gradually evolved into a major deity in the Taoist divine system. Due to the continuous bestowal of titles by emperors of the Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties, Zhenwu became the supreme deity in the Taoist divine system, ruling over all things. In the Ming Dynasty, the belief in Zhenwu reached its peak.
