The plaque of the Imperial Hall of Taihe Palace, No. 1

The wooden plaque inscribed with "Fu You Xia Min" has a black background and golden characters. The inscription reads, "Presented by the Governor in charge of the aftermath of military affairs in Hubei Province in the 14th year of the Republic of China." There were originally two seals and the name of the provincial governor on the plaque, but they were later removed. According to historical and cultural research, this plaque is a witness to a political struggle of the Republic of China government on the eve of the Great Revolution. The "aftermath" mentioned in the inscription was a product of Yuan Shikai's usurpation of the state. At that time, Yuan Shikai, under the pretext of handling the aftermath, borrowed a large amount of money from banks in five countries including Britain and France to restore the imperial system. During the period of warlord strife, the opportunistic politician Xiao Yaonan, following Wu Peifu's order, carried out the "February 7th Massacre", killing Jin Hua Gun, who was sent by Sun Yat-sen to work in Hubei. Sun Yat-sen sent a telegram throughout the country condemning his crime. Xiao Yaonan was successively appointed as the military governor of Hubei Province and other positions by the "Beiyang Government" and the "Duan Qirui Government". At the end of 1924, seeing that the people of Hubei were responding to the call of the Communist Party of China and their revolutionary spirits were high, Xiao Yaonan came to Wudang Mountain to pray to the deities and left behind two plaques: "Dao Ji Qun Sheng" and "Fu You Xia Min". It is said that Xiao Yaonan died in 1926. Due to his notorious life, later generations removed the plaque, seal and name.
