The Bell Tower of Zixiao Palace

This pavilion-style building, named the Bell Tower, was restored on the site of the Ming Dynasty during the renovation of the Zixiao Hall in 1994. This has practical significance for later generations to have a comprehensive and intuitive understanding of the imperial palace architecture of the Ming Dynasty. The morning bell and evening drum are essential morning and evening rituals in Taoist temples. The morning bell is the tolling sound of the early morning, so it is built on the east side. Taoism holds that this can summon all the spirits, enhance the grandeur of the palaces and temples, and boost the atmosphere of the mountains and hills. In Taoist temples, all the ten directions of the monasteries are equipped with bell towers and drum towers. The term "morning bell and evening drum" is widely used and has the meaning of alerting and awakening people.
