Renwei Temple

#Wulong ·2022-08-20 23:32:13

Renwei Taoist Temple had some Taoist buildings in the Yuan Dynasty, and a large-scale renovation was carried out in the tenth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty. Like all the Taoist temples in Wudang, Renwei Temple mainly consists of some main buildings such as the main hall, the Dragon and Tiger Hall, and the Lingguan Hall. Now these halls have been destroyed, and people can only imagine their scale in the past from the ruins. Renwei Temple was built in the Ming Dynasty but was also destroyed during the same period, leaving people with a mystery. To solve this mystery, only one legend can be used for now. It is said that when Renwei Taoist Temple was practicing Taoism, some lawbreakers who were addicted to women appeared. They hid some good-looking women who came to offer incense. This is a serious crime committed by Taoism, which violates the precepts and the imperial edict. When the emperor learned of this, he sent the Jinyiwei troops into the mountains to suppress and kill them. The army buried this gang of lawbreakers in the ground, ploughed them to death with iron plows, and then burned the Renwei Temple to warn future generations. The credibility of the legend remains unknown, but at least it shows that both gods and rulers have always emphasized the balance of benevolence and authority. As the saying goes, "Those who follow me will thrive, while those who oppose me will perish."
