"Shoupu"

Laozi said, "A true person is one whose nature conforms to the Dao." Therefore, it exists as if it were non-existent, real as if it were illusory, treating the inside rather than the outside, understanding the great simplicity, non-action and returning to simplicity, the essence of the body embracing the spirit, wandering the root of heaven and earth, clearly imitating the outside of dust and dirt, freely engaging in idle activities, mechanical and intelligent, not carrying in the heart, examining without falsehood, not being swayed by material things, seeing the transformation of events and adhering to the essence, concentrating the mind within, understanding the unity of fortune and misfortune, residing without knowing what to do, acting without knowing what to do, knowing without learning To see without seeing, to achieve without doing, to debate without governing, to respond with feeling, to act under pressure, to move without being forced, like the radiance of light, like the effect of shadow, to follow the way, to wait and become, to be broad yet empty, to be quiet yet non-existent, to take a thousand lives as one transformation, to all differences as one principle. Having essence but not using it, having spirit but not applying it, maintaining the simplicity of the great and the pure, standing in the essence, sleeping without dreaming, wisdom without emerging, movement without form, stillness without form, existing as if it were dead, living as if it were dying, entering and exiting without pause, commanding ghosts and gods, the spirit can reach a thousand realms. To make the spirit unobstructed without losing its essence, day and night without any gap, and to be in harmony with all things as spring, is to combine and give birth to the time in the heart. Therefore, the form may fade but the spirit has not yet transformed, responding to transformation with non-transformation. Through countless changes and transformations, there is no ultimate limit. Transformation returns to the formless, while non-transformation is born together with heaven and earth. Born together, it has not yet transformed; what it transforms is transformed. This is the pure and simple path of the true person's journey.
