The functions of change: the heavens hang down images, the earth takes shape, the seven rays illuminate the void, and the five elements illuminate the earth. The earth is the source of the forms that are generated, and the void is the source of the essence and energy of heaven. The movement of form and essence is like the root and the branches and leaves. Looking up at its image, it can be known even from a distance. Di Ri: Is the earth below? Reading Fear Ri: The earth is beneath human beings and within the great void. Di Ri: Feng Hu? Fang Bo Ri: It is the great atmosphere that lifts it. Dryness dries it, heat steam it, wind moves it, dampness moistens it, cold hardens it, and fire warms it. Therefore, wind and cold are at the bottom, dry heat at the top, dampness in the middle, and fire travels through it. Cold and heat are six people, thus causing deficiency and generation. Therefore, when dryness prevails, the earth becomes dry; when heat prevails, the earth becomes hot. When wind prevails, the earth moves; when dampness prevails, the earth becomes muddy; when cold prevails, the earth cracks; when fire prevails, the earth becomes solid. Emperor's Day: How can the qi of heaven and earth be treated? Qi Bo said, "How can the qi of heaven and earth be treated when it overcomes and is not reflected in diagnosis?" - (Pulse Method) Day: The changes of heaven and earth cannot be diagnosed by pulse. This is what is meant by this. The emperor asked, "What about the qi?" Qi Bo said, "Follow the qi where it is, and expect it to be on the left and right." Di Ri: How can it be treated? Fang Bo ri: When one follows the qi, there is harmony; when one goes against it, there is illness. One who does not take the right position will fall ill; one who shifts his position will fall ill; one who loses his position will be in danger; one whose position is reversed will die; one whose Yin and Yang meet will die. First, establish the year to understand the qi, and then one can talk about the reversal and order of life and death. The emperor said: Cold, heat, dryness, dampness, wind and fire, how can they be combined in human beings? How can they generate and transform all things? Qi Bo said, "The east generates wind, wind generates wood, wood generates acid, acid generates liver, liver generates sinews, sinews generate heart. In heaven, they are xuan; in human beings, they are Dao; on earth, they are Hua. Hua gives rise to the five flavors, Dao gives rise to wisdom, zhi gives rise to spirit, and Hua Qi. Spirit in heaven is wind; on earth, it is wood; in the body, it is sinews; in qi, it is softness; in storage, it is liver." Its nature is small, its virtue is harmonious, its function is dynamic, its color is blue, its transformation is vigorous, its governance is loose, its order is spread, its transformation is vigorous, its responsibility is limited, its taste is sour, and its will is anger. Anger harms the liver, sorrow surpasses anger; wind harms the liver, dryness surpasses wind; sourness harms the tendons, spiciness surpasses sourness. In the south, heat is generated, heat generates fire, fire generates bitterness, bitterness generates the heart, the heart generates blood, and blood generates signs. It is heat in the sky, fire on the earth, meridians in the body, rest in qi, and heart in storage. Its nature is summer, its virtue is prominent, its function is restlessness, its color is red, its transformation is luxuriant, its growth is like insect feathers, its policy is bright, its command is depressed and steaming, its transformation is fiery and bright, its sound spreads like flame, its taste is bitter, and its intention is joy. Joy harms the heart, fear surpasses joy; heat harms qi, cold causes heat in the cavity; bitterness harms qi, saltiness surpasses bitterness. In the center, dampness is generated, dampness generates earth, earth generates sweetness, sweetness generates the spleen, the body generates flesh, and flesh generates the lungs. In the sky, it is dampness; on the earth, it is earth; in the body, it is flesh; in qi, it is fullness; in storage, it is the spleen. Its nature is calm and balanced, its virtue is softness, its function is transformation, its color is yellow, its transformation is fullness, its preservation of insects, its governance is lanyan, its control of clouds and rain, its change and flow, its control of dampness and collapse, its taste is sweet, and its will is thought. Excessive thinking harms the spleen, and anger causes excessive thinking; dampness harms the flesh, and wind overcomes dampness; sweetness harms the spleen, and sourness overcomes sweetness. In the West, dryness is generated, dryness generates metal, metal generates pungency, pungency generates the lungs, the lungs generate hair and skin, and hair and skin generate the kidneys. In heaven, it is dryness; on earth, it is metal; in the body, it is hair and skin; in qi, it is formation; in storage, it is the lungs. Its nature is cool, and its virtue is clear. Its function is solid, its color is white, its transformation is consolidated, its effect is insects and insects, its power is strong, its effect is fog and dew, its effect is withering and desolation, its taste is pungent, its will is sorrow. It harms the lungs, joy surpasses goodness; heat harms the skin and hair, cold causes heat in the thighs; pungency harms the skin and hair, bitterness surpasses pungency. The north generates cold, cold generates water, water generates the kidneys, the kidneys generate bone marrow, and bone marrow generates the liver. In the sky, it is cold; on the earth, it is water; in the body, it is bones; in qi, it is firm; in storage, it is the kidneys. Its nature is cold, its virtue is cold, its function is storage, its color is black, its transformation is solemn, its governance is stillness, its command is silver snow, its transformation is cold and sharp, its taste is powerful, and its will is fear. Fear harms the kidneys, thinking overcomes fear; cold harms the blood, dryness overcomes prosperity harms the blood, and sweetness overcomes prosperity. The five qi are more prominent, each with its own leading position. If they are not in their proper place, they will be evil; if they are in their proper place, they will be righteous. The emperor asked: How should the changes of illness occur? Qi Bo said: When qi is in harmony, it will be weak; when it is not in harmony, it will be severe. The emperor asked: How should the governing year be? Qi Bo said: When one's energy is excessive, it restrains what one has and the sea cannot overcome it; when it is insufficient, one cannot overcome the sea and thus takes advantage of it; when one has a light victory, one regrets it; when one is insulted, one suffers evil, and when one is insulted, one suffers evil, and there is little fear. The emperor said: "Be good."
