An altar is a high platform specially set up for the worship of deities and ancestors. During the heyday of Taoism in Wudang, both the government Taoism and the common people held sacrificial activities throughout the year. The exquisitely carved altar of Fuzhen Temple was built in the early Ming Dynasty and is still well-preserved to this day. Under the altar, there is a Sumeru pedestal, and above it, there are decorative railings. The entire altar is carved from stone and is the only well-preserved physical altar on the entire mountain.
