Wudang martial arts are profound and extensive, with a long history. On Wudang Mountain, people have always valued martial arts and virtue since ancient times. Among them, there are many "martial arts fanatics" who take it as their responsibility to spread martial arts. Yang Qunli is a typical example of them. Yang Qunli, born in February 1953, is from Yun County, Hubei Province. Currently, he serves as the vice principal of Shiyan Sports School. He is the only senior wushu coach in Shiyan City at present, a national-level wushu referee, and a seventh-dan Wushu player. In 1977, all undertakings across the country were in need of reconstruction, and the spring of sports also arrived. Yang Qunli, who was just graduating from the Wushu Department of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education, realized the importance and urgency of excavating, sorting out and spreading Wudang Wushu. He resolutely gave up the offer to teach at his Alma mater and returned to Shiyan to engage in wushu training and teaching. Although Shiyan, located at the foot of Wudang Mountain, has a solid foundation in Wudang martial arts, when the martial arts team was first formed, it was short of funds, venues and equipment... With a youthful passion, Yang Qunli traversed the mountains and rivers of Shiyan and selected the first batch of martial arts team members. In order to achieve results as soon as possible, he got up early and went to bed late, struggling and rolling with his team members, and became the "king of the kids". Over the past 24 years of teaching, Yang Qunli has led teams to participate in national and provincial martial arts competitions for 30 consecutive times. In the national competition, a total of 15 gold MEDALS, 11 silver MEDALS and 3 bronze MEDALS were won. In the provincial competition, a total of 63 gold MEDALS, 65 silver MEDALS and 61 bronze MEDALS were won... Having ranked among the top three in the provincial team total score for twelve consecutive times, he/she has made outstanding contributions to the martial arts cause of Shiyan City. Excellent grades come from scientific training. Yang Qunli summed up his "training experience" as follows: To engage in professional training, one must have professional spirit, professional level and professional ability. The so-called professionalism requires a spirit of sacrifice and dedication. The so-called professional level means that to achieve outstanding results, one must have corresponding business proficiency, technical proficiency and theoretical proficiency. Professional competence refers to the ability to effectively impart knowledge and skills to students. He also summarized a set of teaching experiences of "six adherences". The first is to adhere to the training principle, that is, to select good talents, focus on the future, lay a solid foundation, and conduct systematic training. Second, adhere to the training policy, that is, highlight the characteristics of the project, strictly follow the movement specifications, strengthen the awareness of offense and defense, and inherit, develop and innovate. Third, adhere to the training style, that is, have solid basic skills, excellent physical fitness, solid training techniques, and a strong spirit of striving. Fourth, adhere to the "five managements", namely, managing ideology, training, study, life and discipline. Fifth, we should adhere to the education of martial ethics, that is, to emphasize the virtues of speech, hands and heart, and carry out education that values martial arts and moral integrity. We should not only practice martial arts but also cultivate people. Sixth, we should adhere to the principle of putting ourselves first, that is, teach students in accordance with their aptitudes, play to their strengths and avoid their weaknesses, pay attention to pertinence, and form advantages. A hardworking person will reap a bountiful harvest. Over the years, while winning one medal after another, Yang Qunli has also sent 13 outstanding martial arts athletes to the Wushu Department of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education and the provincial professional team, among whom 5 are Wuying-level athletes. During the years when he played the role of "child king" and "baby leader", Yang Qunli even more devoted his fatherly love. Many team members are far away from their hometowns and parents, with the youngest being only five or six years old. He took on the roles of parents and nanny for these children, doing the laundry, cooking, and looking after their food and clothing. During festivals and holidays, he would also bring the young team members back to his home to improve their meals, allowing the children to feel the warmth of family. As the team members grew up day by day, they also developed a deep father-son bond with their coach. Although most of the national martial arts champions he trained, such as Yu Li, Zheng Zilong, Liu Bo and He Shan, as well as the provincial all-round champions Guo Shengbin, Ding Changyou, Zhou Qingfeng, Tian Lin, Zhang Bo, Zhang Min, Chen Yaqiong, Zhang Ling, Chen Jian and Weng Xiaofang, are working in other places and some are quite famous in the martial arts and entertainment circles, they still often call and write to him, have heart-to-heart talks and share their thoughts. Between the lines, Full of trust and gratitude. Yang Qunli has also reaped rich rewards in scientific research and creation. Over the years, he has published professional papers such as "Ten Discussions on Simplifying Tai Chi Teaching", "Basic Conditions for Achieving Results in Sports Training", "On Youth Wushu Training", "Thoughts on the Development of Sanshou Techniques", and "Wudang Wushu and the 'Three Natures'" in professional magazines like "Chinese Wushu", "Journal of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education", and "Wudang Wushu". He co-authored and published works such as "Research on Wudang Quan", "Wudang Taiyi Five Elements Quan", and "Research on the Origin, System and Content of Wudang Quan". Among them, "Research on the Origin, System and Content of Wudang Quan" won the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the State Sports Commission in 1993. In order to promote and carry forward Wudang martial arts, I have recently served as the chief editor of "Simplified Wudang Quan" and have been busy with the practice and promotion as well as the promotion of national fitness. This martial arts expert who makes a living by martial arts gives the impression of Wudang Neijia Kung Fu, not "powerful and forceful", but "refined and elegant", making people feel that he is even more like a scholar. He concurrently holds positions such as director of the Wudang Quan Research Association, member of the Provincial Wushu Association, vice chairman of the Municipal Wushu Association, member of the Provincial Wushu Society, advisor to the Chinese Wudang Quan Association, and advisor to the Wudang Mountain Wushu Association. He has participated in the planning and organization of many large-scale Wudang martial arts events, such as the first Wudang Mountain International Martial Arts Ring Competition, the first Hubei Wudang Cultural Martial Arts Festival, the Wudang International Tourism Festival, the Wudang Quan Friendship Association, the National Sanda Championship, etc. He has also served as a referee for national martial arts competitions and as the chief referee and deputy chief referee for various levels of martial arts competitions within the province on multiple occasions. In 1993, he was included in the "Dictionary of Famous Chinese Martial Arts Figures". Yang Qunli has developed an unbreakable bond with martial arts. His decades-long career in martial arts has given him a deeper understanding of the principle of "valuing martial arts and virtue". He often says that "valuing martial arts" can cultivate our national spirit of self-improvement and continuous progress, while "upholding virtue" can foster our broad-mindedness of carrying all things with great virtue. Valuing martial arts and upholding virtue is the lifelong pursuit of a martial arts worker, and promoting Wudang martial arts is the sacred mission of every martial arts worker on Wudang Mountain.
