The plaque of Tianyi Zhenqing Palace in Nan Yan Palace

#Nan Yan ·2022-08-20 23:32:13

During the Yuan Dynasty, Zhang Shouqing, a renowned Taoist priest from Wudang, led over a thousand disciples to carve rocks and stones. It took him more than twenty years to build a stone hall, which he named "Tianyi Zhenqing Palace". The plaque was installed before the stone hall was completed in the third year of the Yuan Dynasty. It is recorded that in the third year of the reign of Emperor Zhi of the Yuan Dynasty, Empress Dowager Shouyuan ordered Zhang Shouqing to go to Beijing to pray for rain and successfully bestowed upon the palace the title: "Tianyi Zhenqing Wanshou Palace". Four years later, Emperor Renzong of the Yuan Dynasty, upon the request of the virtuous Grand Scholar Chen Hao, bestowed upon the palace a title: "The Great Tianyi Zhenqing Wanshou Palace". These two royal bestowations, as they could not be changed in reality, could only be recorded in history. The plaque you see now is still the name at the time of its construction.
