Taichang Temple is located on a steep mountain in the northeast of Nan Yan, at an altitude of 1,048 meters. There were ancient buildings here during the Yuan Dynasty, and they were rebuilt in the 16th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty. Because its location is often surrounded by rosy clouds and mists, it was historically called "Yunxia Temple". It is said that there was once a highly skilled Taoist named Tai Chang on Wudang Mountain. He once cured the empress Dowager's illness but refused to accept a reward. The emperor then ordered the construction of this temple on Wudang Mountain and bestowed it upon it the title of "Changtai Temple" after the name of this Taoist, to be remembered by future generations. Another theory holds that Taichang is one of the twelve celestial deities, and Taichang Temple is a place for worshipping these deities. Therefore, the temple enshrines the sacred image of Laozi, a revered deity in Taoism. In 1993, the state allocated special funds to repair the Taichang Temple. What we see now is the repaired Taichang Temple.
