Nan Yan, also known as "Zi Xiao Yan", is called Nan Yan because it faces south. Its full name is the Great Sage Nan Yan Palace, which is the place on Wudang Mountain where the cultural and natural landscapes are combined most perfectly. According to records, during the Tang Dynasty, Lu Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals, once practiced Taoism at Nan Rock. To this day, there is still a poem he composed here. Historical records highly praise Nan Yan as "lined with halls and courtyards, with morning bells and evening lamps, and the sounds of the mountains and the tremors of the valleys." Here, "morning bells and evening drums" are used as "morning bells and evening lamps", indicating that the architectural layout of Nan Yan was well-arranged at that time. At night, the lights here became a distinctive sight.

The ancient buildings in Nan Yan have broken away from the traditional completely symmetrical layout and pattern, achieving a high degree of harmony and unity with the environmental features. The artisans ingeniously took advantage of the terrain, leaning against the mountains and rocks, to create a complex of buildings that rose and fell in a grand and imposing manner.

The Nan Yan Scenic area is rich in unique and diverse landscapes. There is a cliff called Fei Sheng Cliff that rises abruptly from a peak and offers a beautiful view. There is a fragrant dragon head stretching out from the sheer cliff. There is an ancient stone hall built on a perilous cliff. All the tourists who come here are amazed!
