Inside the Huanglong Cave

The most distinctive feature of Huanglong Cave is the "cave within a cave". Within the cave, there is a spring that never runs dry throughout the four seasons, clear and sweet. Legend has it that a yellow dragon attained enlightenment and ascended to heaven here. To express gratitude for the nurturing kindness of this place, the yellow dragon left behind a magic pill. The elixir of immortality enables the water here to cure all diseases. To express their gratitude to Huanglong, people set up a hall and made statues here to show their worship. Legend aside, it is a historical fact that Li Shizhen, a great medical scientist of the Ming Dynasty, went to Wudang to gather herbs and lived there. It is recorded that Li Shizhen once revised the monumental work "Compendium of Materia Medica" in Huanglong Cave and included over 800 kinds of precious medicinal herbs from Wudang Mountain in the book. Later generations erected a statue here in memory of this medical sage for people to pay their respects.
