Being confused about small matters is beneficial to health

Zheng Banqiao, a renowned poet, painter and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty, once wrote a banner that read: "It's rare to be confused." Under the banner, there is a small piece of text: "It's hard to be smart, hard to be confused, and even harder to go from being smart to being confused..." Naturally, the "confusion" mentioned here refers to a kind of self-cultivation in the mind, aiming to understand the truth, have a broad mind and be lenient towards others. As the saying goes, "Be clear about major issues but confused about minor ones." This means that one should be clear about principle issues and handle them with standards, while for trivial matters in life that lack principles, there is no need to be overly concerned. From a psychological perspective, when it comes to unprincipled and unpleasant words or things one dislikes, one pretends not to hear or see them, or forgets them as soon as they hear them, thus keeping silent. This kind of "being oblivious to minor matters" approach is not only an attitude towards life but also one of the secrets to good health and longevity. Every day, a person is entangled by more or less, big or small matters and interpersonal conflicts, so it is hard to avoid all kinds of contradictions in life. Each side has its own reasons. They are all minor truths. If a person is always overly calculating when encountering problems, insisting on getting to the bottom of things and insisting on seeking an explanation, troubles and worries will come uninvited. Over time, this is not conducive to physical and mental health. Medical research shows that when people are often caught in a vortex of worry and sorrow, it frequently triggers the body's "stress response", which not only accelerates aging but also leads to diseases such as high blood pressure and peptic ulcers. However, minor matters that are "muddled up" can make conflicts "melt away like ice and snow". It can also make the tense atmosphere relaxed and lively. In fact, many disputes in People's Daily lives are often caused by trivial matters. These minor issues are often overlooked and forgiven when the relationship between the two parties is good, but they are magnified when the relationship is bad, thus leading to tense tensions. Psychological research shows that emotions often carry a sense of blindness, impulsiveness and temporality. Smart people often adopt the approach of "not taking a definite stance" or "letting things take their natural course" when dealing with such disputes, or what is called the "cooling method". This is because emotional impulses often calm down as time goes by. Once they calm down, it becomes clear how rare these disputes are. Therefore, conflicts are often resolved imperceptibly. From this, it can be seen that when dealing with certain emotional conflicts, in appropriate circumstances, "being confused" can better demonstrate its value. It will help you eliminate psychological pain and exhaustion, and even cross unimaginable chasms. Of course, being "confused about small matters" does not mean being confused about everything or everywhere. If one fails to distinguish right from wrong and does not adhere to principles when it comes to major issues, then one becomes a fool. In conclusion, in life, being clear about major issues and confused about minor ones can help you always keep a calm mind and a cheerful spirit. Therefore, Zheng Banqiao's famous saying, "It's better to be a little confused," can be regarded as a wonderful way to nourish the mind. As the saying goes, "Only by cultivating great folly can one become wise," and "Suffering losses is a blessing," which is exactly this principle. (Shen Jinfeng/Text
