According to the mountain Chronicles of the Ming Dynasty, there was a statue of Emperor Wenchang enshrined on Lingxu Rock. It is said that Emperor Wenchang was the guardian deity of scholars, literati and imperial examination candidates in ancient China. The Emperor of Wen Chang originated from the ancient worship of stars and refers to the broad star in the Ursa Major constellation, known as Wen Qu Star or Wen Xing. Later, in the Taoist divinity system, the god of Wenchang and the God of Zitong were combined into one, known as "Emperor Wenchang". The "Comprehensive Mirror of Immortals Through the Ages" states: Emperor Wenchang "Above governs the thirty-three celestial records of immortals, in the middle governs longevity, death, fortune and misfortune, and below governs the eighteen hells of reincarnation." However, among the common people, it is more commonly believed that he is in charge of literary fortune and is a deity respected by all scholars in the world.
