Taoist Priest Liu

I don't know the name or life story of Taoist Priest Liu. According to Liu Daoming, a Taoist priest of Wudang during the Yuan Dynasty, in his "Collected Works on the True Nature of Wudang's Blessed Land", in the Song Dynasty, there was a hermit named Liu Dao-ren who built a hermitage at the foot of Zigai Peak deep in Wudang Mountain. One dusk, a fairy boy held an imperial edict, stating that Liu had been promoted to the ranks of immortals and could be summoned to leave. Before long, a divine chariot and its attendants arrived. Seeing this, Wang Daoren, a disciple of Taoist Priest Liu, was somewhat suspicious and said to his master, "If it is truly a celestial decree descending, it should be at the beginning of the morning when the sun is just rising." It's already dark now and suddenly a celestial edict has come. Could it be that a demonic spirit is testing you?" After hearing this, Taoist Priest Liu thought it made sense. So he withdrew from the room and secretly burned the 箓 thunder talisman. Immediately, a thunderclap rang out from the sky, and the fairy boy and the chariot attendant all vanished without a trace. The next day, Tianming saw bloodstains in front of the door. Following the bloodstains for two or three miles, they discovered a huge beast in a stone cave that had been struck dead by lightning. The "Brief History of Taoism in Wudang" also records this event in the "Yijian Zhi", which is quite detailed. It states that the method used by Taoist Priest Liu was the Five Thunder Method. According to the Five Thunder method, it belongs to the 符箓 magic of the Shangqing School of Taoism. From this, it can be known that Taoist Priest Liu is a Taoist priest of the Shangqing School in Wudang Taoism. The so-called "Heavenly edict" is a kind of illusory scene that Taoist priests encounter during their process of entering a state of meditation and contemplation. This illusory scene is believed by some Taoists to be both real and false, with the truth being the encounter with the divine and the issuance of an edict. It is false to be a test of the demonic obstacles. If one is to test the path for demonic obstacles, there are two approaches: one is to remain steadfast in one's mind, and the demonic obstacles will naturally recede. The second is to recite incantations and mantras, write 箓 and draw talismans, and use the dharma to drive away the obstacles, and the demons will also retreat by themselves. Both are used differently but have the same effect. However, different Taoist sects adopt different means.
