Wudang Quan originated from Wudang Mountain, a sacred place of Taoism. In traditional Chinese martial arts schools, it is known as Neijia Quan and is a well-known school of Chinese martial arts.
In order to promote Wudang martial arts and restore its former glory, in accordance with the instructions of the leaders of the Chinese Wushu Sports Management Center and the Chinese Wushu Association to compile a set of simplified Wudang boxing routines that are easy to promote and popularize among the masses, and with the attention and support of the Shiyan Municipal Government, a editorial board was established with Vice Mayor Hu Zhongjun as the director, consisting of Chinese Wushu 7th Dan. Senior coach and national-level referee Yang Qunli served as the chief editor and compiled this set of "Simplified Wudang Quan".
The theoretical basis for the compilation is based on the traditional cultural thoughts of Wudang Quan, such as the "Three Theories and Four Theories", namely, the "Theory of the Origin of Health Preservation and Fitness", the "Theory of the Natural Essence of Boxing Techniques", the "Theory of Circular Arc Movement Trajectory", the "Theory of Counterattack Tactics", the "Theory of Yin-Yang Combat in Boxing Techniques", the "Theory of the strategy of maintaining softness and treating feminness", and the "Theory of Transforming evil and promoting Good Morality" (see "Research on Wudang Quan"). The technical movements are based on the routines of schools such as "Wudang Taiyi Wuxing Quan", "Wudang Xiaoyao Zhang", "Wudang Mian Zhang", "Wudang Taiji", "Wudang Ziran Men", "Wudang Zhi Chui", "Wudang Chun Yang Quan", and "Zhao Bao Taiji", striving to make "Simplified Wudang Quan" conform to the technical, fitness and artistic aspects of Wudang martial arts in both theory and technical expression.
